AI in medicine,
done honestly.

I'm an emergency physician, clinical informaticist, and opinionated builder working at the intersection of frontline care, healthcare AI, and policy. I write, speak, and ship tools clinicians actually use.

About

Nearly two decades bridging emergency medicine and healthcare technology.

I'm Co-Director of Advanced Development at The Permanente Medical Group, which delivers care to Kaiser Permanente's 4.6 million members in Northern California. I work on practical AI development, commercialization, partnerships, and technology transformation. As a clinical informaticist, I also lead emergency and urgent care strategy for KP's electronic medical record.

I trained in emergency medicine at St. Luke's–Roosevelt in Manhattan (chief resident), completed a fellowship in medical simulation at Stanford, and went to medical school at Stanford too. Somewhere in there I taught myself to code — badly at first, less badly now.

It’s my profound hope that Offcall can improve physicians’ lives and careers and help make practicing medicine enjoyable again.

— Offcall founding letter

That conviction built MDCalc and Offcall, two resources dedicated to helping physicians, and The Physicians' Charter for Responsible AI — a practical framework for deploying safe, accurate, and fair AI in clinical settings.

iii.

Physician Advocacy
